Assemblywoman Galef Hosts EnergizeNY on “Speak Out”

How to get help conserving energy and saving money in your home
January 27, 2014

Assemblywoman Sandy Galef speaks with Elyssa Rothe of EnergizeNY and Victoria Gearity, Village of Ossining Trustee, about how to access the help New York State is providing to Westchester residents who want to make their homes more energy efficient. Rothe points out the surprising fact that over half of Westchester energy use comes from homes and over half of that is wasted, so there is lots of room for EnergizeNY to make a difference.

Gearity describes the local roots of the program, how it started with a pilot program in Bedford, and has been rolled out in Ossining. Rothe outlines the easy two step process that is now in place. First you get a free or low cost assessment from trained experts who look for possible heat leaks as well as how the heat circulates in your house. Next an energy coach helps you evaluate the suggestions, understand the financial help that is available, and access the eight certified contractors available in Westchester. She describes the consumer protections that are built into the program beginning with supervision by NYSERDA, and the requirement that contractors be trained and certified. EnergizeNY is available to walk people through the process at their office, over the phone, and at the Ossining Library. They can be reached at 914-302-7300.

“It is exciting to showcase a program that makes such a difference in people’s lives,” said Assemblywoman Sandy Galef. “The potential for saving energy and money can only be good for our quality of life, the environment, and the future of us all.”
