Assemblywoman Galef and Legislator Wishnie Sponsor Meeting with New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) and Elected Officials
February 27, 2003
State Assemblywoman Sandy Galef and Westchester County Legislator Richard Wishnie today are sponsoring a meeting with Vice-President Carol Murphy and Ken Klapp of the New York Independent System Operator (NYSIO) from 1:00 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Chamber of the Westchester County Board of Legislators, 8th floor of the Michaelian Office Building, 148 Martine Avenue, White Plains.
Galef and Wishnie have invited all elected officials in Westchester and Putnam Counties to attend the meeting that will focus on the energy needs in New York State, how the energy grid operates in transmitting and purchasing electricity from produces, NYISO capacity requirements, and the long term power situation in the state.
Under deregulation in the state, NYISO operates the transmission system formerly managed by a consortium of electric utilities and balances electric supply with demand. To do this NYISO created an open market similar to a commodity or stock exchange where suppliers and distributors buy and sell the power need for residences, business, and industrial organizations.
