State Assemblywoman Sandy Galef announced she is sponsoring a senior public forum on Thursday May 15, 9:00 a.m., Cortlandt Town Hall, 1 Heady Street (off Oregon Road), Cortlandt Manor.
The Assistant Attorney General of New York State, Gary Brown, will discuss scams aimed at senior citizens in the area, how to spot them, and how to protect yourself.
Other speakers include the head of the new Arthritis Center at the Hudson Valley Hospital Center, Dr. Arthur Rand, M.D, board certified rheumatologist, who will outline programs including an arthritis support group, a self-help course, an exercise plan, and support for osteo-arthritis.
Laura Bolotsky, Director of Operations of the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services, will talk about the proposed changes to Medicare, prescription drug inclusion in Medicare, Medicaid costs, and proposed state cuts for at-home care.
Sheila McCullagh, RN, Director of Consumer Protection & Outreach of the non-profit group IPRO, will discuss how to evaluate quality in nursing homes, preventive services for diabetes and asthma, what to look for in evaluating home health care, and how to appeal for you rights and benefits.
