Buffalo – Today, December 20, 2012, New York State Assemblyman Sean Ryan released the following statement following actions by the Clarence IDA this morning to approve $85,000 in tax subsidies for the Towne Mini car dealership of Clarence:
“I join with many Western New Yorkers in expressing outrage that the Clarence IDA would use our tax dollars to subsidize a car dealership. We now know that Towne Mini’s franchise agreement actually requires them to expand. And on top of that, they have already purchased the land they want to expand onto and have begun construction and secured the necessary permits. Clearly they would have moved forward with this expansion even without the bonus of taxpayer subsidies. Just when we thought the IDA’s in Erie County were starting to turn a corner and make some improvements to the way they do business, the Clarence IDA has hit the brakes on any possible internal reforms. Our IDA’s are still out of control and I am going to continue my push in the upcoming legislative session to reign in their inexcusable actions, which are detrimental to taxpayers.
