Ryan Announces West Side Day at The Albright-Knox Art Gallery
Event to Offer Free Admission and Transportation to the Albright-Knox, as well as Family Art Activities – West Side Artist Dennis Maher’s Work to be Featured
April 26, 2013

BUFFALO – Today, April 26, 2013, New York State Assemblyman Sean Ryan and President of the Albright-Knox Board of Directors Leslie Zemsky announced West Side Day at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. The event will take place on May 11th from 1-5pm, and will feature free admission and transportation to the Albright-Knox, a scavenger hunt through the art gallery, and a family art project inspired by the work of West Side artist Dennis Maher. Maher currently has an Artist-in-Residence Exhibition at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery which is on display until May 12th.

“Earlier this year, I spoke with the staff here at the Albright-Knox and asked them if there was a way that we could collaborate to create an interactive experience that would allow Buffalo’s West Side community to experience the Art Gallery in a new unique way,” said Assemblyman Ryan. “The event is designed to invite the community to have that interactive experience at the art gallery, and to increase awareness among the community about an important cultural institution that is right in their own back yard.”

Transportation is being provided by The Belle Center and Urban Family Practice. Busses will pick people up at these four locations throughout the West Side:

  • The Belle Center – 104 Maryland Street
  • The West Side Community Center – 161 Vermont St
  • The West Side Bazaar – 25 Grant Street
  • Sweetness_7 Café – 212 Grant Street

The busses will pick-up at these locations every twenty minutes starting at 1:00 PM until the last pick-up at 3:40 PM. The busses will also pick people up at the Albright Knox and return them to those four locations every twenty minutes.

A free ticket will be required for admission. Anyone can pick up a free ticket at any of the four locations, on the busses the day of the event, or at Assemblyman Ryan’s office, located at 936 Delaware Avenue. Additionally you don’t have to utilize the free transportation to attend the event. If you want to walk or drive yourself to West Side Day, all you have to do is pick up a free ticket before May 11th.

“This event will allow the West Side Community to experience the art gallery in a whole new way, and with some fun interactive experiences,” Ryan added. “My thanks to the staff at the Albright-Knox for helping to organize this great event and make it a reality.”
