Assemblyman Silver advocates for eviction moratorium for NYCHA residents affected by Hurricane Sandy
November 26, 2012
"With so many of our neighbors still struggling to recover from the devastating impact of Hurricane Sandy, I fully support the decision by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) to suspend housing court actions against those affected by the storm. From the loss of food, medicine and other perishables, to lost income from time missed at work, thousands of NYCHA residents in Lower Manhattan have suffered serious financial consequences and it could take months to recover. I urge NYCHA to re-evaluate the needs of Lower Manhattan residents after the eviction moratorium expires on Jan. 1 to determine whether even more time is needed for people to put their lives back together."
