Income eligibility limit now $66,050
February 2, 2006
Assemblyman Steve Englebright (D-Setauket) reminds all senior homeowners who participate in the enhanced STAR Exemption Program that they need to re-apply before March 1, 2006. To provide more seniors with needed tax relief, Assemblyman Englebright helped raised the enhanced STAR eligibility level to $66,050 (adjusted gross income). If you income is below $32,399, you may also be eligible for the Over 65 Partial Exemption. If you will turn 65 by December 31, 2006 and meet the income eligibility, you can apply now for the Enhanced Star Program. Your savings will be applied to the December tax bill. Applications for the both enhanced STAR Program and the Over 65 Partial Exemption are available at Assemblyman Englebrightís office at 149 Main Street in Setauket. If you need assistance in completing applications call 751-3094 for an appointment. The Assemblymanís office also offers complimentary notary public service and senior citizen cards. If you receive the Basic STAR property tax exemption (which is open to all homeowners regardless of age or income) you do not need to reapply. If you recently moved into the area and would like to apply for Basic STAR please call the Assemblymanís Office for an application.
