Assemblymen Robert Castelli (R,C–Goldens Bridge) and Steve Katz (R,I–Yorktown) will be joined by Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino at a press conference in White Plains on Thursday, January 27, 2011 to raise public awareness of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which, with new eligibility changes, even more residents may qualify for.
In conjunction with the EITC, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) also is offering a free program to provide free tax preparation services for low-income residents. Last year, the program helped 5,840 Westchester County taxpayers prepare returns totaling $6.1 million in Federal and State refunds of which $3.3 million was earned in tax credits.
The officials also will be joined by a representative from the IRS who will be sharing expertise and handouts for the public to take home and providing assistance for claiming your EITC.
All members of the media are invited and encouraged to attend. The press conference will be preceded by a tour of the One Stop Employment Center and those interested should contact the County Executive.
