Katz, Eldridge & Smith Call For Property Tax Cap & Mandate Relief

***Media Advisory***for THIS Monday, June 6, 2011
June 3, 2011
With the June 20th “end of session” deadline looming, Assemblyman Steve Katz, Putnam County Executive Paul Eldridge, and Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith will be holding a press conference THIS MONDAY at 9:15 am outside the sheriff’s office at 3 County Center in Carmel.

The officials are calling on the State Legislature to immediately pass a property tax cap that includes substantive mandate relief. To date, none of the legislation introduced, or the agreement announced by the governor, Sheldon Silver and Dean Skelos last week, includes mandate relief. Without the necessary relief from Albany-imposed unfunded mandates, local schools and services may be compromised, including vital emergency and public safety initiatives.

All media are invited and encouraged to attend this press conference to learn more about the need for a property tax cap with mandate relief, as well as to learn about Putnam County services which may be compromised, should Albany fail to provide substantive mandate reforms and relief in any enacted property tax cap.
