Assemblyman Steve Katz (R,C,I-Yorktown) has scheduled a press conference to address the glaring oversights in Gov. Cuomo’s NY SAFE Act. One of the oversights is the provision banning police officers from carrying their weapons on school grounds. This measure takes effect March 16, 2013.
“The governor has called for an amendment to this act that would allow Hollywood actors to brandish so-called assault weapons for their films, but the men and women who protect and serve cannot carry their sidearm to come to the aid of the very schoolchildren his act claimed to be protecting,” Katz said. “These are the kinds of things that would have come to light in the public discourse of this bill; unfortunately, we never had public discourse of this bill.”
