McLaughlin: NY Farmers Rallied Against Out-Of-Touch Obama Bureaucrats

Legislative Statement by Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C-Melrose)
April 27, 2012

Thanks to weeks of strong, grassroots advocacy and personal testimony from family farmers, President Obamaís Department of Labor has dropped its proposed work ban for 14- and 15-year-olds. The proposed regulations on family farms and our rural communities by Washington bureaucrats demonstrated just how out-of-touch the Obama administration is when it comes to issues affecting the Capital Regionís farm families. While it is positive news that they saw the error of their ways, it is absurd that these regulations were proposed to begin with.

Iím proud to have stood with the Capital Regionís farming community to speak out early and often against the proposed ban. This was nothing more than an attempt by out-of-touch bureaucrats to over-regulate this proud tradition and way of life for so many Capital District families.

I thank my friends in Congress for helping the Department of Labor and the Obama administration see the forest through the trees and, for once, work with farmers to help them do what they do best.
