Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin and Senator Steve Saland host the Chatham High School Model Congress Club at the Capitol, Tuesday, May 22, 2012.
Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C-Melrose) recently hosted the award-winning Chatham High Model Congress Club at the state Capitol. The team took home the Team Spirit Award at the 72nd Annual Model Congress this year, a three-day academic competition simulating the activities of the federal legislative branch held by the American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts. The group toured the Capitol and got a firsthand look at how business is done on the floor of the state Assembly.
“It is truly a pleasure to be around a group of civic-minded youth and watch their eyes light up as they experience democracy in action,” said McLaughlin. “It is easy to see why these young men and women are such successful competitors, brimming with enthusiasm and interest in the legislative process. These are the leaders of tomorrow, and it was an honor to offer them a firsthand look at how government functions.”
