Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C,I-Melrose) today welcomed members from the New York chapters of Blue Star Mothers of America to the Capitol in Albany to recognize the outstanding work they do for our military families and join with him in memorializing May 13, 2013, as Blue Star Families’ Day in New York. Blue Star Mothers is an organization made up of mothers whose children have served or are serving in the United States Military. “It was my honor and privilege to welcome such a strong and inspirational group of women to the Capitol in recognition of the work they do each day for the families and friends of those who fight to protect our freedoms,” said McLaughlin. “While many of our families spent Mother’s Day together yesterday, many of these Blue Star Mothers’ sons and daughters were overseas fighting for each of us here at home.” The Blue Star Mothers of the Capital Region Chapter’s mission is to provide emotional support to its members in times of uncertainty, to support our military sons and daughters, our troops, our veterans and our Gold Star families. This chapter also sends Freedom Boxes to our deployed troops, welcomes home troops at the Albany International Airport, helps with projects for Wounded Warriors and participates in veterans' activities. “The Blue Star Mothers of the Capital Region is a tremendously caring, compassionate and much-needed support group for our soldiers and military families. It is my honor to recognize their great work and officially dedicate May 13, 2013 as Blue Star Families Day in New York,” McLaughlin concluded.
