McLaughlin Announces Grants For Local Libraries
June 21, 2013
Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C,I-Melrose) recently announced that four local libraries – Kinderhook Memorial Library, East Greenbush Community Library, Nassau Free Library and Stephentown Memorial Library – have been awarded substantial construction-based grants that will allow them to improve upon the already great services and programs they offer our community.
“Our local libraries offer such a wide range of tremendous services and programs to all members of our community, including family events, live performances, speakers and countless educational classes for children, adults and seniors,” said McLaughlin. “These libraries are a great asset to our community, and many local families take advantage of the great facilities, especially throughout the summer months.”
The grants for each library include:
- Stephentown Memorial Library, $68,023: this project seeks to purchase deeded rights to an adjacent, town-owned property for library parking, storage and future expansion.
- Kinderhook Memorial Library, $2,555: this project optimizes the entry by replacing the old porch and circulation desk to improve access, staff efficiency and security of library materials.
- East Greenbush Community Library, $16,913: this accessibility and expansion project will create a fully accessible multipurpose outdoor gathering space connected to the library, thereby, expanding the space available to all users.
- Nassau Free Library, $7,327: this accessibility and conservation project will renovate & upgrade energy efficiency and accessibility of two doorways: the front door to historic part of building & the exit door from the community room.
“These grants are a huge benefit for our local communities. Each library has a plan that will make an already great facility better and, thus, be able to better serve the residents of our communities,” concluded McLaughlin.
