Gun violence is plaguing all of our communities.

On January 15, 2013 I voted for and the governor signed into law the Secure Firearms and Ammunition Enforcement ACT (NY SAFE ACT) which is designed to keep guns out of the hands of those who would misuse them.

The SAFE Act was the result of four weeks of intense negotiations among representatives of many different viewpoints on how best to protect New Yorker’s from gun violence. It includes many provisions from separate bills that the Assembly had previously passed. While it is not a perfect law, it accommodates the many conflicting viewpoints of New York residents and is a good step forward.
