"Money for education is the best investment we can make in our future. How well we do tomorrow depends on how well we educate today," said Assemblyman Tom Abinanti (92nd AD) following the passage of the 2013-14 state education budget.
The budget given final passage by the Assembly today provides $21.2 billion for schools statewide, an increase of $936.6 million over last year and $436 million over the executive budget.
"Working in a bipartisan fashion, legislators were able to restore significant funding for education that was cut in the executive budget. And then add some more," said the legislator. "The proposed cuts would have devastated many Westchester school districts."
The schools in the 92nd Assembly district will receive state aid as follows.
| District: | Additional district funding 2013-14: | Percentage: |
| Hastings-on-Hudson | $207,892 | 5.35% |
| Dobbs Ferry | $164,438 | 4.43% |
| Irvington | $417,007 | 16.35% |
| Tarrytown | 1,338,110 | 14.18% |
| Ardsley | $456,608 | 8.68% |
| Edgemont | $347,448 | 12.95% |
| Greenburgh | $249,724 | 6.60% |
| Elmsford | $300,380 | 16.30% |
| Pocantico Hills | $144,488 | 15.93% |
| Valhalla | $176,532 | 4.72% |
| Mr. Pleasant | $224,708 | 5.16% |
| Pleasantville | $509,195 | 9.54% |
| Briarcliff Manor | $494,161 | 13.94% |
Abinanti also announced that in addition to the above sums, he was able to obtain the following additional sums for three Greenburgh school districts that were particularly hard hit by the executive budget proposals and would not be sufficiently restored on the basis of the arcane formulas that govern the distribution of state aid.
- Hastings: $50,000
- Dobbs Ferry: $40,000
- Irvington: $40,000
"Bettering the quality of education must be a top priority" said Abinanti.
