McKevitt: LIPA Reform Bill Not Perfect, But Better Than Nothing

While I believe this bill is fundamentally lacking in several underlying areas, it is a move in the right direction. The creation of a new review process through the Department of Public Service will foster a greater level of transparency and accountability and allow for recommendations to LIPA for service improvements. Considering LIPA has suffered a clear lack of clarity and liability since its inception, this new review and recommendation process will help.
What will be most beneficial to Long Island residents is the consolidation of services through Public Service Enterprise Group. It is my hope that consolidating services through one company will help streamline the repair and communications process in the event of outages or natural disasters.
