Lowering Long Island's property taxes continues to be Assemblyman Jim Conte's top priority. To lower property taxes and provide homeowners with important relief, Jim Conte supports the Property Taxpayer Protection Act.
The Property Taxpayer Protection Act is a comprehensive plan to provide tax relief for Long Island homeowners by:
Capping Property Taxes in order to prevent school district tax levies from increasing over the rate of inflation.
Eliminating Unfunded Mandates for School Districts and Local Governments by reimbursing school districts for costs incurred from 4th and 8th grade Math and English tests and require the state to fund any mandate that costs more than $10,000 annually (or $1 million statewide).
Recouping Medicaid Costs for Local Governments by requiring the state to take over the costs of all optional Medicaid services within 5 years, saving property taxpayers approximately $10 billion.
Enabling Local Governments to Combat Medicaid Fraud - Create a grant to reimburse counties for Medicaid fraud investigation software.
Restoring Middle-Class Rebate checks to the intended level as provided for in the 2007-08 Enacted Budget. By providing this promised tax relief, the Legislature would ensure that taxpayers throughout the state get relief during these tough economic times.
Business STAR:
High property taxes also negatively affect Long Island businesses. That is why Assemblyman Jim Conte is fighting to enact Business STAR.
