The newly-organized Drug Free Massapequa group has joined with Assemblyman Joseph Saladino to invite the public to a very important event designed to increase parental awareness of heroin, prescription medication, and dangerous drug abuse in our community. A Drug Awareness Walk and many other activities have been scheduled in an effort to combat the growing problem of drug abuse and heroin-related deaths in the Massapequa community.
“Peer Aides” is a group of Massapequa High School students, from grades 9-12, who enforce good, healthy habits and responsible decision making. They will bring a presentation and will be available to speak with your child, one-on-one, throughout the day. S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions) will provide information and encourage students to join them and focus on their goals. Counseling professionals will be on hand as will officers from the 7th Precinct of the Nassau County Police Department. Visitors can watch an eye-opening video which illustrates the effects of drug abuse on the brain. By showing conclusive pictorial data and CAT scan images, young people may begin to understand the dangers of their actions.
