Greetings Friends and Mothers alike,
It is an honor to serve and represent the 22nd Assembly District of New York State! During my first few years in Albany as an Assemblywoman, I recognized the lack of support and services for new mothers within the state. A new mother myself, I understood the many challenges mothers face to ensure the healthy development of their children. It was then that I made it a mission of mine to ensure that new mothers and their infants all over New York State were sufficiently supported by legislation that would provide proper funding for lactation and postpartum services.
Thus far, I've been tremendously successful in pushing for legislation that supports new mothers. This year, I was able to pass bills that would require airports to provide a nursing space for breastfeeding mothers as well as allow Medicare coverage for donor breast milk. However, there is far more work to be accomplished. As the Assemblywoman representing the 22nd Assembly District of New York State, I will continue sponsoring new legislation that would allow equal access to support services for all new mothers across all socioeconomic classes. New York State has an obligation to support the healthy development of our future generations, and I am proud to take part in fulfilling that obligation.
