The birth of a baby brings strong waves of emotions, ranging from excitement and joy to fear and anxiety. There's also an unseen, unexpected force - depression. A total of more than 900,000 women in the United States alone are impacted by postpartum depression.
Postpartum depression consists of appetite and sleep problems, difficulty concentrating and making decisions, lack of interest in the baby, mood swings, isolation, sadness and crying, the constant feeling of being overwhelmed, and even thoughts of self-harm. Often seen as a taboo, postpartum depression is not openly discussed amongst people. With nearly 200,000 unheard and unreported cases, exposure and awareness is incredibly imperative to tackling the cause.
