St. Mary’s Senior Center Update

Nolan Announces 6 Month Extension for St. Mary’s Senior Center!

Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan (D-Queens) was informed that St. Mary’s Senior Center in Long Island City, Queens was granted a 6 month extension by the City Department of Aging.

“I am grateful to Mayor Bloomberg for making the needs of our senior citizens a priority and keeping St. Mary’s open for another six months,” said Assemblywoman Nolan.

“We are extremely pleased about this decision which will allow the community adequate time to plan the next step so that our local senior citizens will not be displaced,” said Assemblywoman Nolan.

I want to thank Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Councilman Eric Gioia, Community Board #2 Chairman, Joseph Conley, St. Mary’s Senior Center Director, Renee R. Hartwell, Catholic Charities and the many senior citizens from the Queens neighborhoods served by St. Mary’s for all their efforts to inform the public and create positive action. The Queens Library Family Literacy Center was also instrumental in achieving the extension and we are grateful to them for their efforts,” said Assemblywoman Nolan.

The St. Mary’s Senior Center is run by Catholic Charities with the support of the Department for the Aging (DFTA). For over twenty years the center has provided nutritious meals, social activities, guidance, and counseling to the elderly residents of Long Island City.
