In November 2011, the recommendations in a report presented by the Commission on Health Care Facilities Brooklyn Work Group affected the future of up to 8 hospitals* in Brooklyn through possible closings, mergers, consolidations and transfers. This has united the communities of Brooklyn – the hospitals and their workers, community residents and all of the elected officials of Brooklyn at the Federal, State and City levels. In order to understand the issues and protect our hospitals, my office is sponsoring a meeting with the following speakers to share their viewpoints and discuss how we can work together.
Speakers:
*3 voluntary hospitals – Brookdale, Wyckoff, Interfaith to be merged/consolidated with Brooklyn Hospital and/or Kingsbrook Jewish Hospital. In addition, SUNY Downstate would be closed and its beds transferred to Long Island College Hospital. Kingsboro Psychiatric Center would be closed.
