Assemblyman Ortiz recently toured the Camelot Center where he had the opportunity to
meet with staff and visit with several young people who are dealing with addiction and
substance abuse.
Among the topics discussed when Assemblyman Ortiz visited Samaritan Village was the
need for funding for veterans who are dealing with addictions. During his visit,
Assemblyman Ortiz was presented with our U.S. flag in recognition for his support and
dedication to the Veterans' community.

Assemblyman Ortiz welcomed IKEA to Red Hook and was a key supporter in bringing it to
the Red Hook Community. IKEA will provide many jobs to the community and is also a
major community resource.

The United Senior Citizens Center of Sunset Park celebrated their 34th Anniversary on June 20th, 2008.
The Center, which was established in 1974, provides many recreational, cultural, social and educational

Assemblyman Ortiz attended the Celebration of the Opening of Health
Plus’s Facility in China Town, Brooklyn.
Every year, during the month of May, Assemblyman Ortiz introduces a Resolution
in the New York State Assembly requesting the Governor to proclaim the Month of
May as "Children Awareness Month". He also sponsors a "Children
Awareness Month" project in his community, which involves holding workshops
in his District Office where students learn about the functions of state government and
the responsibilities of a state representative. Above, are some of the students who
participated in this year’s Children Awareness Project.
The Assembly Standing Committee on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (chaired by Assemblyman
Felix Ortiz) and the Assembly Standing Committee on Correction (chaired by Assemblyman
Jeffrion Aubry) sponsored a joint public hearing on May 5, 2008 in Albany. The topic of the hearing
was "Community reentry of persons with a history of alcohol and/or drug dependency released
from incarceration and the progress with collaboration between the Sate Departments of Parole,
Corrections and OASAS."
Assemblyman Ortiz listens attentively to testimony given at the "Rockefeller Drug Law"
Public Hearing which was held on May 8, 2008 at 250 Broadway in New York City. The public hearing
was sponsored by the Assembly Standing Committees on Codes, Judiciary, Correction, Health,
Alcoholism and Drug Abuse and Social Services.
