The Greenest Block in Brooklyn Contest is a competition for residential and commercial blocks in Brooklyn during the summer months. The project is sponsored by Greenbridge, Brooklyn Botanic Garden's community horticulture program and Borough President Marty Markowitz. "I am pleased that so many residents and businesses in the district acknowledged this fun, meaningful and educational tradition," said Millman. "I am proud of not only the winners in the various categories, but all those who participated in beautifying their blocks this summer." On October 1st, both commercial and residential winners will be acknowledged at a ceremony hosted by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and Brooklyn Botanic Gardens President Scot Medbury at Brooklyn Borough Hall. This year the ceremony is dedicated to the memory of Judith Zuk, the late President of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. |

Young readers attending schools in the 52nd Assembly District will receive New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificates for taking part in the 2007 Summer Reading Challenge. The reading challenge encourages children to continue reading over summer vacation as studies show that children who read over summer vacation perform better in school in the fall. Assemblywoman Millman will present certificates to students of P.S. 58 at the PA Meeting on October 24th, and at PA meetings at other schools this fall. |

On September 29th, Assemblywoman Joan Millman joined Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and members of the community in celebrating the Dance Studio of Park Slope's 32 years of business at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Studio's new location on 630 Sackett Street. To kick off the event, longtime friends of the center "The Persuasions" performed, followed by an open house. The Dance Studio of Park Slope has been an asset to communities throughout Brooklyn over the decades, providing dance, gymnastics and musical theatre lessons to children and adults. In addition, the Studio has many programs developed especially to enhance the lives of disabled, disadvantaged and ailing children. "The Dance Studio at Park Slope has been a great contributor to this community for over 30 years," stated Millman. "The grand opening of the new location will allow the Studio to expand its operations to positively impact an even greater number of children and adults in Brooklyn." |
