Assemblywoman Hyer-Spencer: An ongoing commitment to helping women and children Fighting domestic violence.
A former legal director for My Sisters’ Place, a top non-profit in New York that helps victims of domestic violence, Assemblywoman Hyer-Spencer has witnessed firsthand the devastating effects domestic violence has on women and families, and she recognizes the need for better treatment for victims. That’s why this year she authored a new law that eliminates the fee for service of a civil order of protection, encouraging victims to come forward (Chapter 36 of 2007). Protecting our families from sexual predators. In an effort to prevent the creation of future victims, she also supported a law that will toughen penalties for convicted sex offenders and keep the most dangerous of them off the streets (Chapter 7 of 2007). |
