Gunther delivers tax relief for working families

More tax relief for Sullivan County. In this year’s budget, Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther voted to override the governor’s vetoes to put money back in your pockets.

Tax relief for working families

With a maximum benefit of $330 for each child from 4 to 17 for every family in the state, the Empire State Child Tax Credit provides real tax relief to New York’s working families.

In addition, we eliminated the regressive 4 percent state sales tax on clothing under $110, saving Sullivan County shoppers about $2 million a year The bipartisan budget agreement also eliminated the marriage penalty tax, saving married couples $41 million annually when fully phased in.

Homeowner Tax Relief

The Legislature’s budget would provide families with significant property tax relief, including a Basic STAR rebate averaging $210 in Sullivan County, an average Enhanced STAR rebate of $317 and a bipartisan-approved cost-of-living adjustment to Enhanced STAR, which would save eligible seniors an average of $144 in Sullivan County - bringing the average Enhanced STAR exeption to roughly $1,200.

Unfortunately, the governor vetoed the Basic and Enhanced STAR rebates.

The Legislature’s budget:
  • Creates an income tax credit for volunteer firefighters, saving them $25 million when fully phased in

  • Provides a tax deduction for members of the National Guard called to federal service, saving them $1 millio

  • Increases aid to municipalities, including over $125,000 more for municipalities in Sullivan County

Call the governor at (518) 474-8390 and tell him we need property tax rebates.
