Cahill Touts Record School Aid in Executive Budget

Assemblymember Kevin Cahill (D-Ulster, Dutchess) applauded Governor Spitzer for advancing an Executive Budget that maintains the state's multi-year commitment to enhance education statewide. The spending plan calls for a record $21 billion in state aid. Under the proposal, schools in the 101st Assembly District would receive over $102 million in foundation aid.

"Even in the face of an enormous budget deficit, the Governor stood up for the children of New York by proposing the largest education increase ever advanced in an Executive Budget," said Assemblymember Cahill. "I believe it is critical that we remain committed to excellence and equity in education and I will fight with the Governor to ensure that the funding remains targeted for schools that need it the most."

Mr. Cahill did express concern that some BOCES reimbursements are projected at lower levels than last year for certain school districts. The Assemblymember pledged to fight for restorations of this funding.
