Assemblymember Cahill: Assembly Maintains Assemblymember Kevin Cahill (D-Ulster, Dutchess) announced the 2008-2009 State Budget increases education funding by $1.75 billion. Under the plan total state education aid will rise to $21.4 billion. "Like many of the countless families across New York dealing with economic hardship and limited resources the Assembly chose to make the needs of our children a top priority," said Assemblymember Kevin Cahill. "This unprecedented increase school aid is not only aimed at ensuring excellence and equity in our education system, but also at shifting more of the funding burden to the state in order to relieve the pressures that have led to the property tax crisis that has been a destabilizing factor in our communities." All districts will get at least a 3 percent increase in foundation aid under the final budget, according to Assemblymember Cahill. Schools in Ulster and Dutchess Counties will receive $458.8 million. This represents a $33.9 million increase over last year's levels. Please note the following chart with a breakdown of funding for each district in Ulster and Dutchess Counties. |
