fought for taxpayers
by voting to:
- Make it easier to consolidate local governments and permit shared-services agreements (Chapters 74 and 494 of 2009)
- Pass sweeping reforms to increase oversight of public authorities, making them more transparent and accountable to taxpayers (A.40012, delivered to governor)
- Curb the hiring of private contractors in state agencies and utilize current state workers, saving taxpayers $50 million (A.40011, delivered to governor)
Dear Neighbor,
The recently enacted deficit reduction plan reduces spending and allows the governor to manage the state’s cash flow for the remainder of the fiscal year. It’s not the comprehensive solution my colleagues in the Assembly and I envisioned, but I’m encouraged that we were able to make necessary cuts while protecting essential funding for education and health care. This compromise is the first step toward creating a long-term solution to repair our state budget.
Sincerely,

Assemblyman Reilly
