Problem:
Too many people are fleeing Fulton, Herkimer & Otsego Counties in search of a cheaper place to live and work. The biggest culprit is overwhelming property taxes.

Solution:
Marc Butler knows that Fulton, Herkimer & Otsego County homeowners desperately need property tax relief and this year he delivered that relief in the form of a rebate check.

Future:
Fulton, Herkimer & Otsego County residents will receive double the rebate they received last year. The STAR Rebate Program will provide an additional $5.3 billion to the STAR program over the next three years, with this year totaling $1.3 billion.

Property Tax Timeline - what to expect

  • The Office of Real Property Tax Services will provide the Department of Taxation and Finance with homeowners’ names and addresses for the final assessment roll no later than August 15 of each year.

  • The tax department will notify eligible STAR homeowners of the application process through a one-time mailing expected to hit this summer to enroll in the Middle Class STAR Rebate Program. Homeowners must be enrolled in the traditional STAR program to qualify to receive this rebate. Enhanced STAR recipients will automatically qualify for this program.

  • Qualifying homeowners have until November 30 to apply for the rebate. Note that homeowners need not apply again for future rebate checks.
