“I fought to ensure that this budget included the funding students need for a quality education – because I know firsthand how important it is.”

Investing in our children’s future

Assemblywoman Lifton fought for a final budget that:

  • Increases state aid to Cortland County schools to over $31 million in total aid for the 2008-2009 school year

  • Increases state aid to Tompkins County schools to over $86 million in total aid for the 2008-2009 school year

  • Includes over $682,000 for Cortland County and over $1.6 million for Tompkins County universal pre-K, putting every child on a path to success

  • Restores the executive budget cuts to BOCES

All of this funding helps keep property taxes in check for Cortland and Tompkins County residents.

Making higher education more accessible

  • Assemblywoman Lifton successfully restored the $50 cut to all TAP recipients

  • Lifton also fought to restore $76 million in other opportunity programs such as HEOP, EOP, SEEK and Bundy Aid – helping families afford college

  • The budget also includes no tuition hikes at SUNY
