Local Grants Awarded to 123rd Assembly District

Assemblyman Gary D. Finch (R,C,I-Springport) is pleased to announce the awarding of New York state Archives grants to local governments and community organizations. The state Archives offers grants to local governments and community organizations throughout the state to support the management of their records. The grants are used to improve records management systems, preserve New York's proud history and help teach children of the importance about preservation and archives.

"In a world where so often we forget about the past, it is wonderful to see these funds being dedicated to the preservation of our heritage and history. Preserving New York's colorful and proud past is too important to let fall through the cracks, and the New York state Archives is helping local governments and communities to ensure that does not happen," Assemblyman Finch said.

Local governments and organizations in the 123rd Assembly District to receive awards are:

- Broome County, Historical Records $60,000
- Village of Whitney Point, Historical Records $4,200
- City of Auburn, Active Records $74,878
- Town of Genoa, Inactive Records $3,406
- Chenango County Cooperative Extension, Inventory and Planning $2,481

- Spencer-Van Etten School District, Inactive Records $4,950

The Archives' grants are funded through the Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund (LGRMIF). Its revenues come from a small percentage of the fees paid when people file or record documents with county clerks and the Register of New York City. The LGRMIF is authorized to operate and distribute grants through 2005.
