Working to Lower Your Property Tax Burden.

Assemblyman Finch understands New York’s high property tax burden has a crippling effect on homeowners. It disproportionately impacts those who can least afford to pay their bills and threatens the dream of home ownership.

Assemblyman Finch also believes the amount of property taxes necessary to maintain New York’s school districts is too high and that something must be done.

That’s why Assemblyman Finch has developed a plan to provide residents with significant property tax relief and help them save their hard-earned money.

Assemblyman Finch’s
Plan to Lower the Property Tax Burden:

Revise Tax Formula

Assemblyman Finch is pushing for a new system that would replace the school property tax with a more fair and equitable income-based tax to reduce the property tax burden on residents who make less money.

Increase STAR Exemption

Assemblyman Finch wants to increase the School Tax Relief (STAR) program exemption so it is based on today’s housing market value, rather than the value of homes in 1997, when the program was created. This would provide $1.7 billion in additional tax relief.

Eliminate Medicaid Fraud

Assemblyman Finch is advocating for Medicaid reform. Medicaid fraud, waste, and abuse cost New York taxpayers nearly $4.5 billion annually. By instituting Medicaid fraud and recovery requirements, counties would be able to detect fraud more easily and save taxpayer money.
