Keeping Children and Families Safe

Do sex offenders live near you?

Assemblyman Finch secured state grants to provide state-of-the-art search and notification tools for you to protect loved ones from registered offenders. The system is available in Broome and Cayuga counties and will soon debut in Cortland, Chenango and Tioga.

With the new system you can:

  • Conduct an address search that will provide a map of all offenders within one mile of the specified address

  • Sign up to receive e-mail or mailed notifications when an offender moves within a one mile buffer of an address that is important to you

  • Receive automatic notification of registered sex offenders’ movement on more than one address, such as a child’s school, playground, relative’s home, the local mall, etc.

This system is highly confidential; no one can access your information. If you have questions on the new system, please contact Assemblyman Finch’s Office.

Here is what Civil Confinement does:

  • Provide for indefinite civil confinement in secure treatment facilities for the most dangerous sexual predators

  • Create special screening panels and give judges the discretion to keep the worst predators confined

  • Toughen penalties to keep sexual predators locked up longer and increase periods of supervision if paroled

  • Broaden sex crimes by creating the new crime of “sexually motivated felony”

  • Establish a state Office of Sex Offender Management to keep track of sexual predators, help victims, and protect the public

  • Mandate fixed sentencing, without parole, for sex offenders.
