A Special Update on Property Tax Relief Effort From Bill Reilich
Assemblyman Reilich NYS Seal

New York state residents pay the third-highest property tax rate in the nation. As a homeowner, I understand the crippling effect these high taxes are having on New Yorkers.

High taxes disproportionately impact those who can least afford to pay their bills and threaten the dream of homeownership. Homeowners should not be left with the high tax burden.

That’s why I have developed a plan to provide residents with real property tax relief and help them save their hard-earned money.

Restriction on Unfunded Mandates

Assemblyman Reilich strongly opposes unfunded state mandates because he understands local governments and school districts are forced to increase their tax levies on property owners to pay for the programs. That’s why Reilich will continue to fight against unfunded mandates and insist the state fund its directives.

Eliminate Medicaid Fraud

Assemblyman Reilich advocates Medicaid reform because program fraud, waste and abuse cost New York taxpayers nearly $4.5 billion annually. By instituting Medicaid fraud recovery and reporting requirements, Monroe County would be able to detect abuse more easily and save taxpayer money.

ENHANCING STAR
STAR Rebates Coming

Assemblyman Reilich wants to help our seniors protect their homes from rising property taxes, so he has fought for School Tax Relief (STAR) rebate checks that will return, on average, $330 to senior citizens. Other homeowners can expect to see an average return of $207.

Enhanced STAR Program

Assemblyman Reilich understands senior citizens’ struggles with rising property taxes. This year’s state budget helps senior citizens by including enhanced STAR program cost-of-living increases totaling $72 million.

REFORMING TAXES
Revise Tax Formula

Assemblyman Reilich is pushing to replace the school property tax system with a more fair and equitable income-based tax to relieve the burden on residents who make less money or are on fixed incomes, like senior citizens.

Municipal Liability Reform

Assemblyman Reilich supports municipal liability reform to ensure cost savings for local governments, farmers, landowners and professionals who are insured for the unreasonable liability imposed by New York’s statutes.
