Working to Reduce Our Tax Burden in Monroe County

Assemblyman
Reilich

High taxes and rising fuel costs are harming consumers. Several measures were passed during the 2006 legislative session that help alleviate some of this burden, including increased school aid to minimize local school tax hikes, repeal of the 4 percent state sales tax on clothing and footwear under $110, and capping the state sales tax on gasoline.

There is still a great deal we can do to help lower the tax burden, and that’s why I continue to push for new initiatives and measures aimed at cutting taxes.

As always, if you have questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact my office by calling 225-4190 or e-mailing reilicw@assembly.state.ny.us.

Sincerely,
Bill Reilich
Assemblyman
134th District

Assemblyman Bill Reilich’s
Guide to Tax Relief
A Plan for Real Property Tax Relief
  • Assemblyman Reilich wants to replace the school tax formula with a more fair and equitable income-based tax to relieve the burden on property owners who make less money or are on fixed incomes, like senior citizens.

  • Assemblyman Reilich knows there is a great deal of work that still must be done on Medicaid reform. Through the Assembly Minority Task Force on Medicaid Fraud, Waste and Abuse, Reilich and his conference are looking at ways to reduce the burden on taxpayers while providing quality health care for deserving individuals.

  • Record increases in unrestricted school aid for cities, towns and villages in this year’s state budget are designed to provide flexibility in funding and help minimize local school tax hikes.

No State Sales Tax on Clothing and Footwear
  • Assemblyman Reilich supported repeal of the 4 percent state sales tax on clothing and footwear purchases under $110, which took effect April 1.

Save at the Pump
  • Assemblyman Reilich advocated strongly for a state gasoline sales tax cap, which took effect June 1 and is estimated to save New Yorkers hundreds of millions of dollars
