- Tom O’Mara

Forum looks for ideas to put plug in brain drain.
Efforts to reverse exodus of younger, educated New Yorkers a worthwhile cause.
This summer, Assemblyman Tom O’Mara hosted the first ever Assembly Minority RemaiNY Forum at Corning Community College Academic and Work Force Development Center in Elmira. During the event, Assemblyman O’Mara heard from young New Yorkers, educators and business leaders who discussed ways to make New York state a more desirable place for younger generations to live, work and raise a family.

Keeping Our Best and Brightest in New York:

Helping Young New Yorkers pay back college loans by:
Supporting legislation to allow New Yorkers to deduct the costs of their student loan interest off their state income taxes to encourage recent graduates to remain in New York.

Affordable Living for Young New Yorkers by:
Eliminating unfunded state mandates on schools and local governments to help lower burdensome property taxes to help young people afford owning a home.

Supporting the "NY HOMES Act," which would allow first-time homebuyers, between the ages of 18 and 35, tax breaks on their mortgage payments.

Creating Jobs For Young New Yorkers by:
Lowering taxes to improve the local economy and create better paying jobs for young people entering the work force.

Building strong partnerships between industries, colleges, universities and BOCES to establish High-Tech Manufacturing Job Training programs to help prepare young people in careers in the innovative technology and manufacturing fields.
