Helping New York
businesses compete

NYSA Seal

Dear Friends:

Small businesses are the foundation of our economy and we need to do all we can to support them. That’s why as your Assemblyman, I fought for workers’ compensation reform to improve our business climate while helping injured employees better make ends meet.

The Legislature and the governor succeeded in reaching a landmark agreement, now law, that will increase future benefits for injured workers for the first time in more than a decade while reducing costs for employers by 10 to 15 percent. The law protects workers and at the same time cuts the cost of doing business in New York.

I will continue to do everything I can to make sure small businesses and families in Western New York get the support they need to succeed.

Sincerely,

Workers’ Compensation Reform will help strengthen the Western New York economy “. . .Workers’ compensation was one of the most pressing issues facing the state. . . This change will help to make New York a more attractive place to do business, a crucial step in reversing upstate’s economic slide.”

Reducing the cost of doing business

Assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak helped to fix New York’s broken workers’ compensation system by supporting a new law that will reduce the cost of doing business by 10 to 15 percent. The law will:

  • Establish strong anti-fraud measures

  • Create innovative programs to get workers prompt medical treatment and to help them return to employment

  • Set the maximum number of years some claimants can receive cash benefits, although medical services will continue

Increasing benefits for injured workers

The law will also significantly increase benefits for newly injured workers. The maximum benefit rate will rise over four years and will be indexed to the average weekly wage.

Working to improve the economy

Reforming the workers’ compensation system is a step in the right direction. However, Assemblyman Gabryszak knows that more needs to be done. That’s why he will:

  • Fight for property tax relief for middle class families

  • Encourage local governments to save money by sharing services

  • Support the governor’s proposal to reform the Wicks Law
