Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Zinerman Announce $6 Million in Enacted SFY 2024-25 Budget for New Bedford Stuyvesant Health and Wellness Center

Speaker Carl Heastie and Assemblymember Stefani Zinerman today announced the Enacted State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2024-25 Budget includes $6 million in funding for the Bedford Stuyvesant Volunteer Ambulance Corps (BSVAC) facility, a new multi-service health and wellness center for Bedford Stuyvesant and surrounding communities.

“The Assembly Majority remains committed to providing for families across our state and that means ensuring access to equitable and affordable healthcare,” said Speaker Heastie. “Assemblymember Zinerman fought hard for this funding as she understands this investment will expand critical care, maternal support and violence prevention efforts in communities that need it most.”

“BSVAC represents the best of us,” said Assemblymember Zinerman. “I’m honored to be here today to thank them for all they do and commit $6 million to support their lifesaving work in our community. This investment will not only help us expand emergency services, but it will also provide more support to mothers and ensure access to care is never a problem in Bed-Stuy.”

Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Zinerman visited the site of the new facility that will house BSVAC, Kings Against Violence Initiative Inc. (KAVI) and the Central Brooklyn Birthing Center led by Ancient Song, Inc. These organizations will provide the community a new range of emergency medical services, violence prevention and reproductive health support.

This facility will be designed by architect, Rodney Leon, who designed the Ark of Return and the New York City African Burial Ground National Monument.
