Speaker Heastie Statement on the Passing of
Assemblymember Barbara M. Clark

It is with profound sadness that I join my colleagues in mourning the passing of the Hon. Barbara M. Clark, a beloved member of the New York State Assembly family. Assemblymember Clark was a dedicated public servant who devoted 29 years in service to the people of the 33rd Assembly District in Queens. She was a passionate and committed advocate for quality education and accessible public healthcare. She proudly took every step possible to strengthen families and communities from the inside out.

Assemblymember Clark will be remembered by many for her warm spirit and her firm belief that we all have a responsibility to defend the well-being of our fellow citizens. This compassion led her to champion issues like lifting people out of poverty and greater investment in public education. Over the course of her career, she authored significant and thoughtful legislation that has no doubt improved the quality of life for thousands of families in her community and all across the state. Her many contributions to this body and to the people of the State of New York will always be remembered.

On behalf of all the members of the Assembly, I offer her loved ones our deepest sympathies and comfort during this difficult time. We are thankful to have known her and to have worked alongside her. May she rest in peace.
