Speaker Heastie Kicks off Fourth Statewide Tour in the North Country

1 / 2

Speaker Carl Heastie today joined Assemblymember Billy Jones in the North Country to kick off his 2019 statewide tour. This is the fourth statewide tour Heastie has embarked on since assuming the role of speaker in 2015. During today's visit, Heastie and Jones toured Bombardier and ate lunch at Clare and Carl's Hot Dog Stand.

"As speaker it is important for me to understand the needs of all of the regions around the state," said Speaker Heastie. "Today's visit to Plattsburgh illustrated the investments being made to provide jobs and help boost our economy and uplift our communities. Bombardier is responsible for producing subway cars used by the MTA, showing how a thriving upstate economy affects the economy statewide."

Bombardier's continued investments in New York have provided much needed jobs and helped support a growing upstate economy. Originally opened to support projects for the Metropolitan Transit Authority, Plattsburgh is now the home of Bombardier's final assembly and test center for all rail cars in the U.S. marketplace. They have expanded operations to include building car shells and assembly of trucks and door systems.

Clare and Carl's Hot Dog Stand has been a family owned institution for more than 70 years. The humble restaurant has received national recognition for having some of the best hot dogs in the country. They are best known for their "Michigan" hot dog, which is topped with meat sauce and chopped onions.

"I am pleased to have Speaker Heastie back in the 115th Assembly District to see the contributions our hardworking men and women are making to our statewide economy. Bombardier not only provides jobs and supports our upstate economy, but provides subway cars for the MTA as well. They have shown the good that comes from long-term investments in our communities," said Assemblymember Jones. "It is also a great opportunity to showcase a thriving hometown business like Clare and Carl's."
