LEGISLATIVE ACTION
The Legislature provides $25,088,000 in additional General Fund
support for the 2000-01 Academic Year for the City University of New
York (CUNY). This includes $6,970,000 for Community College base aid
which provides an additional $125 per full-time equivalent student.
This additional funding will provide greater financial stability and
mitigate the need for any tuition increases.
In addition, the Legislature provides $1,900,000 in General Fund
support in the 2000-01 Academic Year for additional faculty lines at
Senior Colleges, 2,000,000 for faculty lines at Community Colleges and
$1,440,000 for the operation of child care centers in order to serve
student-parents and their children. In addition, $500,000 is provided
for capital costs associated with the CUNY Child Care program. The
Legislature provides an additional $2,950,000 for the Search for
Education, Elevation and Knowledge (SEEK) and College Discovery, and
$388,000 for the Queens College Worker Education program is provided
directly to Queens College base budget for the 2000-01 State Fiscal
Year.
The Legislature transfers the Executive`s request of $9,000,000 in
CUNY remediation funding from the State Education Department and
provides this funding directly to the City University of New York.
The Legislature reprograms $1,900,000 of this appropriation to support
additional full-time faculty positions for CUNY senior colleges.
The Legislature approves of The City University of New York intent to
authorize the funding of $5 million for the Structural Biology
Initiative at the City College of New York within the 5-year capital
plan. The $5 million will be used to purchase and install Nuclear
