S3TAIR Project Effective Practice Dissemination Grant

The New York State Education Department has created this grant program to support the S3TAIR Project’s (Supporting Successful Strategies To Achieve Improved Results) goal of dissemination and replication of evidence-based practices in three instructional areas that benefit students with disabilities. These three areas are literacy, positive academic and behavior intervention and supports, and effective delivery of special education programs and services. Grantees will be expected to identify districts/schools which have successfully implemented and sustained these practices, develop in-depth documentation of the practices in these districts/schools, and support peer-to-peer mentoring between these schools/districts and districts seeking to replicate the practices.
ELIGIBILITY: Public schools, charter schools and BOCES serving students in Kindergarten through 12th grade having validated effective evidence-based on practices.
FUNDING: Individual awards of $10,000 are available for up to 5 years.

New Construction Grant Program
NYSERDA-Enterprise Collaborative
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is funding a grant with the Enterprise Community Partners, Inc. intended to provide grant funding to new construction and substantial rehabilitation projects. Projects must both participate in NYSERDA’s Multifamily Performance Program (MPP) and meet Enterprise’s Green Communities Criteria. The grant cannot be combined with funds available through NYSERDA’s Green Affordable Housing Program, which requires projects to achieve Silver LEED Certification. Projects pursuing both LEED certification and Green Communities must choose either the NC Grant Program or the LEED-based Green Affordable Housing Program.
ELIGIBILITY: This grant program is open to for-profit and not-for-profit sponsors of affordable housing. Up to 10 of the 20 awards may be made to for-profit sponsors and the balance will be awarded to non-profit sponsors.
FUNDING: Grants of $25,000 to up to 20 projects in New York State to offset the soft-costs associated with improving the energy and environmental performance.
DEADLINE: Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis.

Local Government Efficiency Awards

This non-competitive grant program is intended to provide funding for cooperative efforts by entities which achieve savings through the sharing of services. Applications are being requested from eligible municipalities to cover the costs associated with plans and studies for functional consolidation and increased shared services.
ELIGIBILITY: Municipalities, regional planning and development boards, school districts and BOCES.
FUNDING: Up to $2 million has been allocated to high priority planning grants with individual awards of up to $50,000 available.
DEADLINE: Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis with the next deadline occurring on December 10, 2008.

Rural Assistance Center
Established with the goal of creating a positive, long-lasting impact on the communities BJ’s serves, the mission of BJ’s Charitable Foundation is to enhance and enrich community programs that primarily benefit children and families. This grant program is designed provide funds to organizations that promote the safety, security and well-being of children and families. Additional goals include supporting education and health programs, providing community service opportunities and assisting in hunger and disaster relief. The program must positively impact communities where BJ’s Clubs are located.
ELIGIBILITY: Eligible organizations include not-for-profit organizations that are tax-exempt under 501(c)(3) and are recognized as a “public charity” by the IRS

Special Programs for the Aging
Administration on Aging
The Administration on Aging (AoA) is accepting applications for proposed projects that further the purposes of testing new and innovative approaches to the design and delivery of programs and services for older persons. These programs must expand knowledge and understanding of the older population and the aging process, help meet the needs for trained personnel in the field of aging, and/or increase awareness of the need for individuals to assume responsibility for their own longevity. Program demonstrations that are based on evidence-based models that have been supported by research (preferably randomized control trials that are published in peer reviewed journals) are preferred. An applicant applying for grant funds through this open solicitation should be aware that this is a highly competitive program.
ELIGIBILITY: Eligible applicants include, state and local governments, public and state controlled institutions of higher education, Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized), not-for-profit organizations having a 501(c)(3) status, and private institutions of higher education.
FUNDING: A total of $750,000 will be made available through this grant.

The Grantsmanship Training Program is coming to New York: Binghamton, March 2-6, 2009, hosted by the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County.
The classes will be conducted by The Grantsmanship Center and are kept at a maximum of 30 participants. The cost is $895, which includes one-year enrollment in the TGCI Membership Program. A limited number of half-tuition scholarships are available to agencies with annual budgets of less than $300,000.

This training provides a hands-on introduction to the Center’s comprehensive Web
subscription database.
How to Approach a Foundation:
Attendees learn how to initiate contact with potential funders; plan calls and meetings; and
build partnerships with donors. This class is intended for fundraisers with some experience,
though not necessarily with foundations.
