        AN ACT to amend the civil practice law and rules, in relation to  estab-
          lishing a time period in which an action to recover damages for injury
          arising from domestic violence must be brought
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Section 215 of the civil practice law and rules is  amended
     2  by adding a new subdivision 9 to read as follows:
     3    9.  Notwithstanding  the  opening paragraph of this section, an action
     4  that may be brought to recover damages for injury arising from  domestic
     5  violence,  as defined in section four hundred fifty-nine-a of the social
     6  services law, shall be commenced  within  two  years.  Nothing  in  this
     7  subdivision  shall  be construed to modify any time limitation contained
     8  in section two hundred fourteen of this article or subdivision eight  of
     9  this section.
    10    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
