        Introduced  by M. of A. ROZIC -- read once and referred to the Committee
          on Correction -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted
          as amended and recommitted to said committee
 
        AN ACT to amend the correction law, in relation to requiring wardens  or
          superintendents  of  correctional facilities to accept assistance from
          state and federal agencies and municipalities
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. The correction law is amended by adding a new section 27 to
     2  read as follows:
     3    § 27. Assistance by state and federal agencies and municipalities. The
     4  warden  or  superintendent  of  any state institution in the department,
     5  having due regard to the safety of  the  inmates  and  property  of  the
     6  institution,  shall  accept humanitarian aid from state or federal agen-
     7  cies or from municipalities in  the  event  of  an  emergency.  For  the
     8  purposes  of  this  section,  an  "emergency"  shall include, but not be
     9  limited to, loss of power, heat or water and  "humanitarian  aid"  shall
    10  mean  material  assistance  actually and reasonably necessary, including
    11  but not limited to bottled water,  medical  supplies  and  supply  kits,
    12  battery  or  solar powered flashlights, blankets and monetary donations,
    13  to alleviate suffering and provide support to staff, inmates  and  other
    14  individuals on site at any state institution during an emergency.
    15    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
