AN ACT to authorize the commissioner of the department of civil service
to reinstate Frank Pallett on the eligible civil service list for
employment as a State University of New York police officer
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 58 of the civil
2 service law or any other provision of law to the contrary, Frank Pallett
3 of Wappingers Falls, New York, who was eligible to sit for the civil
4 service exam for police officers on November 16, 2013 and was eligible
5 for employment as a State University of New York police officer at that
6 time, and who took and passed said exam on November 16, 2013, and whose
7 name appeared on the next civil service eligible list, and who is now no
8 longer deemed eligible for employment as a State University of New York
9 police officer due to change in the law that was implemented by chapter
10 561 of the laws of 2015 which amended section 58 of the civil service
11 law to include State University of New York police officers in the defi-
12 nition of police officers subject to a thirty-five year old maximum age
13 limit, shall be exempt from said thirty-five year old maximum age limit
14 and shall be eligible for employment as a State University of New York
15 police officer. Frank Pallett shall otherwise be subject to the merit
16 and fitness provisions of the civil service laws applicable to full-time
17 police officers.
18 § 2. The commissioner of the department of civil service shall rein-
19 state Frank Pallett on the eligible civil service list, without lost
20 rank or seniority, provided Mr. Pallett files a request to that effect
21 with the state comptroller by January 1, 2020. Any such reinstatement
22 shall be effective immediately.
23 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
