Senate Resolution No. 919

MOURNING the death of Frederick Lowell Whipple,
devoted educator, volunteer fireman, and
distinguished citizen
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Frederick Lowell Whipple of Somers, New York, died on
Sunday, March 19, 2023, at the age of 86; and
WHEREAS, Frederick Lowell Whipple distinguished himself in his
profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to
the welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Born in 1936 to the late Frederick and Mary Whipple,
Frederick Lowell Whipple attended Irvington High School and College of
Emporia in Kansas; and
WHEREAS, Frederick Lowell Whipple was a teacher at the Somers School
District for 25 years, truly believing in the value of enriching young
minds; and
WHEREAS, A volunteer fireman for an impressive 57 years, Frederick
Lowell Whipple had a passion for serving his community; demonstrating
this passion and duty to serve, in 1968, he bravely entered a confined
space at great risk to himself and rescued three people who had been
overcome with fumes; and
WHEREAS, Always staying active, Frederick Lowell Whipple was an avid
sportsman and loved hunting, fishing, digging clams, playing
racquetball, and working out at Club Fit in Jefferson Valley; he also
loved to travel, and visited all 50 states over the course of his
lifetime, with his favorite being Alaska; and
WHEREAS, Frederick Lowell Whipple's commitment to excellence, and
his spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Frederick Lowell Whipple is survived by his beloved wife,
Loretta, brother, Thomas, and sisters, Constance and Violet; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Frederick Lowell Whipple leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Frederick Lowell Whipple, devoted educator, volunteer
fireman, and distinguished citizen; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Frederick Lowell Whipple.
