Assembly Resolution No. 481

        COMMENDING  Joe Girardi upon the occasion of being
        selected as  an  honoree  for  this  year's  Italian
        American Day on June 3, 2019
 
  WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize   and  acknowledge  those  within  our  midst  who  have  made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
 
  WHEREAS, This Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to  commend  Joe
Girardi  upon  the  occasion  of  being  selected as an honoree for this
year's Italian American Day to be celebrated on Monday,  June  3,  2019;
and
 
  WHEREAS,  Born  to Angela and Jerry Girardi, on October 14, 1964, in
Peoria, Illinois, Joe Girardi is a former professional baseball  catcher
and  manager;  he  played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Chicago
Cubs, the Colorado Rockies, the New York  Yankees,  and  the  St.  Louis
Cardinals;  during his 15-year playing career, he won three World Series
Championships with the Yankees in the 1990s; and
 
  WHEREAS, After  his  last  appearance  playing  for  the  St.  Louis
Cardinals  on September 28, 2003, Joe Girardi became a manager; in 2006,
he was named National League Manager of the Year for his work  with  the
Florida Marlins; and
 
  WHEREAS,  From  2008-2017, Joe Girardi managed the New York Yankees;
in this capacity, he led the team to a 2009 World  Series  Championship,
and  a regular season record of 910 wins, and a post season record of 28
wins; and
 
  WHEREAS, Today, Joe Girardi remains involved with the sport he loves
as an analyst for MLB Network and Fox Sports; and
 
  WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Joe Girardi lives with  his  wife,  Kim
Innocenzi-Girardi and their three children in Purchase, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the  maintenance  of  high  standards  in  their
profession,  certainly  have  earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
commend  Joe  Girardi  upon the occasion of being selected as an honoree
for this year's Italian American Day on June 3, 2019; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to Joe Girardi.
