CONGRATULATING Devin James Sullivan upon the
occasion of receiving the distinguished rank of
Eagle Scout, the most prestigious of Scouting
honors, on August 14, 2018
WHEREAS, Devin James Sullivan, through his diligence and rigorous
efforts, has achieved Scouting's highest and most prestigious rank,
Eagle Scout, on August 14, 2018; and
WHEREAS, This extraordinary young man made persistent and steady
progress through the ranks to achieve this prestigious award and has
demonstrated his determination to prepare himself for a meaningful,
productive role in society; and
WHEREAS, The son of James and Margaret Sullivan, Devin is the eldest
child of four; his siblings include Morgan, his sister, who herself is a
founding Female Scout of the newly formed Female Troop 433 BSA, and two
brothers, Dylan and Dustin, all from Ridge, New York; and
WHEREAS, Devin James Sullivan is a member of Boy Scouts of America
Troop 433 of Middle Island, New York; he completed all requirements for
the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout while only 15 years old; and
WHEREAS, Devin James Sullivan is the 82nd Eagle Scout of Troop 433
in Middle Island since its chartering by the Middle Island Volunteer
Fire Department in January, 1976; and
WHEREAS, He has participated in Flag placements and pick-ups at both
Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York, and Long Island
National Cemetery in Wyandanch, New York, since 1st grade, 11 years ago,
when he first joined Scouting as a Tiger Scout in Cub Scout Pack 187;
and
WHEREAS, A member of the Order of the Arrow which is the Honor
Society of Scouting, Devin James Sullivan has always enjoyed camping and
the great outdoors; he is comfortable around all species of wildlife and
domesticated pets as well as all seasons and weather when on a trail or
trek; and
WHEREAS, A quiet but thoughtful leader, currently the Troop elected
SPL (Senior Patrol Leader); and
WHEREAS, Devin James Sullivan has performed roughly over 200 hours
of community service as a Scout and as a student in the Longwood School
District; and
WHEREAS, Devin James Sullivan is a 16 year old Honor Student in his
Junior year at Longwood Senior High School, and is a member of the
wrestling team; and
WHEREAS, Devin is proud to have been recently selected as a member
of the Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) at Suffolk County Community
College (SCCC), which is a cooperative effort between the college, the
Longwood school district, and community groups to enable students to
complete high school and pursue a college education; and
WHEREAS, Devin James Sullivan is interested in a career in flying as
a pilot, and the medical field to help others in need; and
WHEREAS, America has achieved her greatest heights of glory through
the dedication, determination and tireless efforts of the outstanding
citizens of this Nation; and
WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America and its members are dedicated to
the development of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation;
and
WHEREAS, The highest achievement of leadership in Scouting, earned
by approximately five percent of all Boy Scouts, is the distinguished
rank of Eagle Scout; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young man has been involved in Scouting
for many years, has lived up to Scouting's ideals and has attained all
of the necessary achievements, including completion of a community
service project, which was successfully planned, developed and executed;
and
WHEREAS, For his project, Devin James Sullivan chose to create a
project which he felt was meaningful and would last for future
generations to enjoy; he elected to construct an entrance Pergola of
cedar with two attached cedar flower boxes; they now define the entrance
from the parking lot that leads to a restored foot bridge and park at
the former site of The Bavarian Inn, at Beautiful Historic Lake
Ronkonkoma; his fellow Scouts, friends, and family members donated many
hours of their time to help him reach his goal; and
WHEREAS, Devin James Sullivan's perseverance in rising through the
ranks to Eagle Scout is a strong indication of his ability to master
difficult tasks; his accomplishment will enable him to emerge as a
leader, fully equipped to meet the challenges of today's complex
society; and
WHEREAS, This new Eagle Scout is a credit to his family, his school,
his community, his State and his Nation, and no doubt his future will be
filled with accomplishments of equal importance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, in
recognition of the significance of this meritorious achievement, to
congratulate and honor Devin James Sullivan on achieving the rank of
Eagle Scout; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Devin James Sullivan.
